It was an outrageous announcement – Canada would not be sending a hockey team to the 1948 Winter Olympics to be held in Switzerland. Sandy Watson, a squadron leader for the Royal Canadian Air Force quickly put together a team of hockey players from the force who were just amateur enough to compete.

He recruited Sergeant Frank Boucher as team coach and began searching high and low in Canada for the right players. This is the inspiring untold story of a group of determined men, fresh from the battlefield, who surprised not just their nation but the world.

The book takes us through the rough start of the team to losing exhibition games and their amazing battle back that helped them eliminate the American Olympic team, tie with the Czechs and beat the Swiss. As a team made up of POW camp escapists, airmen and Maritimes, the hastily put together Canadian hockey players stunned the world when they won Olympic gold.
